San Jorge Eco-Lodge & Botanical Reserve is an 18th cenutry mountain hacienda, situated on 200 acres of untouched, protected land, preserving the wild and natural habitat of the many endemic plants, animals and over 110 different species of exotic birds, native only to Andes region. San Jorge owns four private nature reserves throughout 4 distinct Ecuadorian climate steps. We offer various activities like birdwatching, hiking, mountain biking, shamanic rituals ans holistic medicinal treatments, indian markets and city & cultural tours. We also have an organic garden, a waste recycling system and we use biodegradable soaps and shampoos made locally as well as biodegradable clothes and dishwashing detergent. Our goal us to help the Ecuadorian community, especially those around the natural reserves owned by San Jorge. In 2006 in cooperation with students from Southern Novas Medical School we provided free medical care to the communities. Currently some college students from California are developing a project to transform the public school to a bilingual school and they are also working in different ecological projects within in the nature reserves.
