IN A WORLD SO PREVALENT WITH VIOLENCE, THE IMAGINE PEACE CAMPAIGN AIMS TO EDUCATE THE YOUTH OF THE WORLD AGAINST THESE PRACTICES

In the lead up to the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo, Olympic Truce Peace Ambassador Victor Mutanga is launching a global peace campaign. Needed now more than ever, Victor hopes this Imagine Peace campaign will help engage people from all over the world to work together for unity and harmony in the face of the violence that takes over so many people’s lives.

Victor, himself, has faced this violence head on having been a victim of xenophobic attacks in Cape Town in 2008 and 2015. These attacks led Victor to stay at a refugee camp where he experienced what it is like to be cast out of a country by unsolicited hate. This spurred him on to create a change in the world and to help educate the younger generation to stop unnecessary violence.

After his stint in a refugee camp, Victor went on to follow his basketball passion, where he worked on his dream to be a professional basketball player while also regularly volunteering at Hoops for Hope, an NGO which promotes sport as a vehicle for social and personal development and empowering the younger generation to become leaders in their communities. An unfortunate shoulder injury let him to change his industry and worked up the ladder in advertising.

In 2012, he was nominated by the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) to represent South Africa and Zimbabwe at the UNESCO Olympic Peace Ambassadors Training and Assistance Program during the London Olympics. The program highlights the six weeks of Global Truce that dates back to 776 BC and today is still acknowledged and supported by all UN member countries. Bringing together youth from all around the world including conflict zones and areas suffering violence every day, whilst in the UK Victor and the other chosen youth representatives underwent a profound 10-day workshop, training them to be UNESCO Olympic Youth Peace Ambassadors.

Taking these skills back to South Africa, Victor launched the Afro Global Youth Exchange, A Pan African youth organization, that specializes in providing inter-cultural exchange programs for young social entrepreneurs and sports community leaders from Africa’s conflict areas. Victor’s goal for the organization is to help Africa’s youth build strong interpersonal skills, engage in social consciousness, create pro-social friendships and reassert a sense of hope in the future.

It was only this year, when, despite all the positive impact Victor has made for the development of peace in the country, he was brutally attacked after coming to the aid of a young women about to run over by a car. With no provocation, he was stabbed in the face and the back of the head by a group of young men with broken beer bottles, after the attack he struggled but managed to make it to the nearest police station where he was given very little help and eventually transported to a private hospital for treatment. Four days past in the hospital and with a strong heart he worked to forgive the men who inflicted this vicious, uncalled for attack.

Standing up for what he believes in and what he knows the world needs, Victor has not been deterred in his stance for peace. Over the next 11 months, Victor will be creating real and digital platforms for young people across the world to engage in positivity, share ideas and resources to promote sustainable world peace. He will also be engaging global citizens including youth, policymakers and government officials in the advocacy to promote youth participation in peacebuilding and the fight against violence and extremism. This 11-month campaign aims to educate communities and build a better future for generations to come.

In 2009 the idea came to life, a farm in perfect harmony with nature, which can offer alternative forms of vacation, relaxation and fun learning. The villa is characterized by its minimalistic modern design in the interior where at the same time effort was given to accomplish the out most comfort for our guests. All buildings were constructed using the principles of bio-climatic architecture. From the foundations to the interior decoration all materials used are friendly to the environment. Our farm is totally autonomous regarding electricity. Our electric supply derives from photovoltaic panels & a wind generator. All organic garbage is recycled using compost where non organic materials are gathered & transferred for recycling. The villa can sleep 10 persons & has a basement of 200 s.m. which is used as a cellar, garage & storage. The ground floor of 270 s.m. houses a luxurious & spacious kitchen, a large & relaxing modern living room as well as 4 bedrooms with their bathrooms. All rooms are decorated in minimalistic modern design taking great care so they will also offer luxury & comfortableness to their residents. One of the rooms & its bathroom is accordingly designed to offer comfort & access to people with special needs. The entire ground floor of the villa and the areas around it are accessible to wheelchair users and people with movement problems. The entrance to the sea water swimming pool is ramped & configured to facilitate the entry to older people, people with kinetic difficulties or wheelchair users. We also offer to our guests (free of charge) a manual wheelchair for usage in the pool and the shower. The first floor houses the master bedroom & its bathroom (65 s.m.) offering ample space. Great balconies occupy the rest of the space with breathtaking 360 degree views of the hills & the sea. The surrounding spaces of the villa are fully planted with flowers. The swimming pool of 100 s.m. is filled with sea water & is accessible to people with special needs. There is also a tree house, built as a tribute to our childhood’s innocence & dreams, a playground & a traditional wood burning bread oven & barbeque.

We offer environmentally conscious travellers a wealth of rewarding activities related to the nature and culture of the Greek Island of Chios. Masticulture is a locally-owned and operated activities organizer and tour operator in the mastic village of Mesta on Chios island in the Aegean Sea. It works under an official Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) license and is the first and only tourism company specialising in ecotourism on the island. It provides a broad variety of both natural and social environmental activities inspired by the island’s culture. Masticulture puts together ecotourism packages that combine hospitality and outdoor activities related to all the things that compose the culture of Chios: its customs and traditions, popular arts and crafts, agricultural labour and produce, architecture and much more. All this takes place on an island that has remained broadly untouched by the tourism development of the last few decades. Chios has also managed to keep its rural societies present because of its active agricultural sector, which to this day continues to be the chief source of employment for many of the villagers on the island, while also functioning as a prime factor in Chios’ sustainable development. - What We Do - Masticulture organizes and carries out ecotourismbased activity programmes combined with the provision of accommodation on various parts of the island to meet and satisfy all standards. We offer independent visitors and groups tailor-made programmes or accommodation, or a combination of both, such as our full ecotourism package tours. We also organize professional meetings, conferences, workshops, etc. integrated with ecotourism features. On one of our excursions our visitors may find themselves riding in a vehicle, on a bicycle, a donkey or a boat. I believe the only alternative to the permanence of mankind on Earth would be a great leap in sustainable technologies, on a planetary scale. We have to develop and spread equally the opportunities to gain effectiveness in the use of environmental goods and energy. Additionally we need to prioritize a change of the common environment concept to a more holistic approach, and bring it closer to the world order. I have a strong desire to be integrated and participate actively in this evolution timeframe, to be part of the change I believe is right for mankind and environment. I understand and practice the concept of interdependence between the productive, environmental and social systems as it is something prior to the concept of triple bottom line. It forms the basis of a different way of thinking and doing business way - more respectful and less self-referential. I act moved by the knowledge that the only permissible income is one that does not come at the expense of society and the planet wellness. Guided by a systemic view where we think the project as an integrated “body” not only on its fragments - the economic, environmental and social dimensions. My volition is to be able to finish the development of a participatory methodology of sustainable development and implement it integrally on our pilot area favela da Rocinha in Rio de Janeiro firstly, and then on another low income communities (favelas) with similar environmental characteristics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and then in everywhere else, as the expansion of urbanization (and of deprived areas) is a global imbroglio.

My research is devoted to the peculiarities of trans-border territories in tourism. The purpose of this research is to prove the essence of trans-border tourist cooperation between close-lying countries thanks to particular geographical prerequisites and economic factors such as higher demand for rest in neighboring states and more intensive tourist exchange in relation to other countries. During my PhD study at Institute of Water and Ecology problems, I carried out research relating to the inbound tourism of my region (Khabarovsky krai, Russia) and character of preferences and mentality of potential tourists from North-East Asia. Also I studied the peculiarities of tourism development and demand for rest, consumers of tourist services within trans-border territories in different part of the Earth. Based on analysis of statistic data of inbound and outbound tourism from close-lying countries, it is reasonable to identify the main potential customers of tourist products and services and describe them from Demographic, Socioeconomic, Motivational, Geographical and Mental perspectives. This research highlights the importance of the creation the regional tour cluster for each consumer segment. According to the traits of perspective customers, we will choose the resources that might be more interesting, organizations, responsible for tourism development, and necessary infrastructure support for such a cluster within trans-border territories. The implementation of the above mentioned goals will help to improve cross-border cooperation between neighboring states; more effectively attract foreign tourists and develop the tourism industry as a whole.

Currently I am I am a Travelife for Accomodations Auditor and I am coordinating the SUSTOUR project that aims to introduce Travelife amongst tour operators and travel agencies and educational institutes in Turkey, France and Bulgaria. Dutch is my mother tongue and I speak English, French, German and Spanish and Turkish. Before I established myself in Turkey, I worked 3 years in and with EU institutions in Brussels. Then I coordinated the foundation of the Dutch National Youth Council and managed its international youth participation department. It has 9000 meters square indoor space including the managerial offices and classrooms. According to our mission and vision, we aim to improve our effectiveness on both national and international level. Accordingly, we established degree programs in English in 2014. These are“International Tourism Management – Master Degree” and “Tourism Management – Bachelor Degree”. We accepted more than a hundred national and international students in total for the period 2014-2020. Additionally, preparations for PhD-degree-course in English are continuing.

Since 2004, we have been sending and hosting Erasmus students from all over Europe. The Council of Higher Education of Turkey created a new mobility programs named “Mevlana Exchange Program” in 2013. You can find the total numbers of students and staffs we hosted and sent within these programs.
