Frédéric Thomas, the founder of SolARE has a PhD from the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis in economics. He is specialised in tourism development impacts’ analysis and development strategies with 12 years of professional experience on international development cooperation issues including 8 years in South East Asia and 4 years in Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean. He has a combination of technical expertise in the areas of social and economic evaluation of development and development’s projects. This encompasses as well purely quantitative and economic approaches to development as qualitative and social approaches. His working experiences for international organizations aimed to study tourism development impacts, socio-economic livelihood patterns, child sex tourism issues, and to improve the understanding of tourism economics and economic related behavioural changes in developing economies. His most recent works focused on Sector Value Chain’s Analysis and training, opportunities and market development studies, and on projects to improve the distribution of wealth due to the rapid expansion of the tourism sector and to enhance its pro-poor impact. He also has a strong experience in the preparation of roundtable negotiations with governments, the private sector and international organizations. After 11 years abroad, he has recently resettled in France, where in parallel with his consultancies, he gives lectures, shares his experiences and does researches at IREST/EIREST (University of Paris 1, Pantheon-Sorbonne).
