Is 1% of green certified tourism worldwide enough?
At least this means a bit less energy and water consumption, less food and plastic waste, less carbon emissions, better working conditions and more local income generated by environmental and sustainably certified tourism businesses, destinations and tour operators worldwide. This is good, but 10% and more until 2030 would be better and would be needed to make the tourism sector a real driver for sustainable development, especially for the SDGs 8, 12, 13, 14 and 15!
To achieve this ECOTRANS together with the TRIANGLE Knowledge Alliance in Europe presented the Travel Green Planet collaboration initiative at the International GSTC Conference 4th - 7th December 2019 on the Azores. Altogether national and international initiatives and networks should join their forces, concentrate on their strengths and create synergies for speeding up in mainstreaming responsible and sustainable tourism.
