Ecoturismo Mediterraneo (2008-2009)

Technical assistance of a coalition of four territories in Sicily/Italy to develop ecotourism products, to exchange with other destinations in Europe, to prepare and realise an international conference for local decision makers, international experts and tourism organisations with focus on certification, destination management and marketing (2008-2009).

The project was realised in collaboration with ACTA. At the international conference following ECOTRANS members participated as speakers:

Contribution to the development of the GSTC: criteria list from European certification programmes. The Rainforest Alliance, UNEP, IUCN, the UN Foundation and ECOTRANS have started a global assessment of 4500 criteria of sustainable tourism certificates and comparison with the leading guidelines for sustainable tourism development, German translation. Green Travel Bridge (2009-2011)

Marketing of sustainable tourism in Latin America to the German travellers.

The public private partnership project the "Green travel Bridge" (original title "Marketing Sustainable Tourism in Latin America to German Travellers") was initiatied by ECOTRANS within the International Task Force for Sustainable Tourism Development in 2007 together with GTZ, Rainforest Alliance and asr. ECOTRANS contributes to the "Green Travel Bridge" with the implementation of the GTB folder on DestiNet, used for internal networking and content management. The GTB initiative uses the DestiNet portal as central source for sustainable tourism information world wide, a.o. “certified tourism in Latin America”. The project team is co-ordinated by Herbert Hamele (2009-2011).

Development and implementation of a “European Monitor and Benchmarking Initiative for the Reduction of Environmental Impacts and Cost in Tourist Accommodation”, co-ordination of the European LIFE ENVIRONMENT project together with Boschvaart, Delft, and nine further partners, online test with 1000 accommodation from all EU member states, comparison of environmentally certified with non certified hotels and camping sites, Delft/Saarbrücken (2003-2006). www.tourbench.info.

DestiNet Sustainable Tourism Information portal (since 2004)

Founding, development and executive body of the "DestiNet Sustainable Tourism Information Portal" with the European
Environment Agency (EEA), UNEP and UNWTO, registered as “UN CSD Type II “Partnership for Sustainable Development” (since 2004). Development of a coherent structure for the submission, search and display of all information types and for networking and exchange of information from local to global level, testing, piloting and administration of the system as DestiNet executive body.
