Module 0: Course Guidance
This foundation module provides a historical view of the need for sustainable development as a whole, taking you though the past decades of the rapidly globalizing ruthless development that has brought us to the current global challenges and opportunities we face as humanity. It then provides a theoretical understanding of sustainable development as a large scale systemic process that incorporates both society and nature. These sections provide the basis to understand the development of sustainable tourism. They are dense texts that require comprehension on a sentence by sentence basis. Throughout the sections you will find TUTOR GUIDANCE NOTES that will clarify the either the learning process or the content being discussed at that point.
The 50 hours of work allocated to do this are divided approximately in half between reading time and assignment time. This gives you about 25 hours to read the online material (approximately equivalent to 80 sides of A4), and then 25 hours to cover the 10 assignments.
NB Any questions you have during your study of this module can be addressed to the course tutor allocated for each section, preferably by email, but please arrange this with your course tutor.
