B1  Infrastructure and Community

Example Travelife for Accommodations:

If the business provides services or facilities, which are not available ordinarily within the local community, the business makes provision or supports initiatives to offer these to local people and local businesses.

INDICATOR:

Where possible, the business makes provision or supports initiatives to offer facilities which support the basic needs of l ocal people and local businesses.

This criterion only applies to businesses offering facilities such as food markets or medical/health related services, in destinations where these are not readily avai lable to local people i.e. within a 50km radius

B1 The organization actively supports initiatives for local infrastructure and social community development including, among others, education, training, health and sanitation.

INDICATOR:

• There is some form of contribution to local community for public benefit through commercial, in-kind, or pro bono engagement.

GUIDANCE:

• Best practice is a program developed in collaboration with community. The level of contribution should be commensurate with the organizations tourism business turnover and the economic status of the local community.
