Bulgaria's town of Belitsa is located in the south-west part of the country. The town is well known for its stunning panoramic views and its high air quality. The Dancing Bear Park is one special attractions. As the largest of its kind in Europe it is home to a growing population of rescue bears being prepared for re-introduction into the wild. The region is home to Muslims and Christians alike. Different religious rituals, a varied local cuisine and Belistisian songs keep the area lively. The mountain resort Semkovo, located 17km from the town, rises 600 metres above sea level and draws visitors year-round. Also a number of nature trails were set up that lead through some of the most unspoiled passages in the country. Winner of the "Tourism and protected areas Award" 2009 (project European Destinations of Excellence EDEN).
