News European Tourism Forum in Malta with Vice President Antonio Tajani

Thursday 18 – Friday 19 November 2010: European Tourism Forum

Vice President Antonio Tajani will be participating in this year’s edition of the European Tourism Forum, organised by the European Commission in collaboration with the Belgian Presidency and the Maltese authorities. The Forum will take place in Mellieha, Malta, on the 18-19 November. The selected theme is “Strengthening Europe’s role as the leading tourism destination”.

Background:
The European Tourism Forum is one of the Tourism Unit’s major initiatives, since it brings together all main stakeholders in the tourism industry to discuss under one roof a variety of topical European level issues. All this takes place within an important new phase for European tourism following the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon, which allows the European Union to undertake additional measures in order to complement the action of the Member States in the tourism sector. The European Commission proposals in this regard are elaborated upon in the new Communication “Europe, the world's No 1 tourist destination – a new political framework for tourism in Europe” launched on the 30th June 2010.
